He was front and center when Shalamar dropped hits like “Second Time Around” and “Make That Move” in the 1970s and 1980s, and now singer Howard Hewett Jr. is being honored by his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Over the weekend, the city declared Oct. 2 Howard Hewett Day and dedicated Cadillac Boulevard, the street where he grew up, as Howard Hewett Jr. Way, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. 

Hewett was on hand for the ceremony that took place during halftime at a football game at his alma mater. Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan led the ceremony.
