Black Republican Allen West, who is running for governor of Texas and hospitalized with COVID-19, tweeted this week from his hospital bed that the country should look to unproven therapies for the ailment, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.
“Why not promote protocols such as Regeneron monoclonal antibody infusion therapy?” West asked. “Why not promote Budesonide nebulizer treatments? Why not promote healthy over the counter therapies such as zinc — which I take — D3, vitamin C, Hydroxycholoroquine, and yes, Ivermectin?”
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has strongly discouraged use of the latter two drugs, typically used to treat parasites, saying they can be highly dangerous, the Chronicle reports.
