The county has had “issues in the past where straw buyers have been involved in the tax sale process,” said Lake County Commissioner attorney Matthew Fech. The amended ordinance would help the county stop the assignments of the tax certificate because of “fraud that has occurred,” like straw purchases, throughout the county, he said.
