A GoFundMe fundraising account to help pay for the funeral of “Friday” actor and comedian Anthony “A.J.” Johnson has surpassed its goal of $20,000.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe account had generated more than $24,000. The surge came about a day after Johnson’s widow, Lexis Jones Mason, lamented to TMZ that the fundraiser had generated only $800 of its goal. The widow also accused her late husband’s friends, who’d promised to help pay for the funeral, of being “fake.”

Most of the contributions to the account appear to come from civilians giving $5, $10 and $20. The largest donation – $4,000 – is from actor and comedian “Lil” Rel Howery.

Lexis Jones Mason told TMZ that a GoFundMe fundraising campaign has generated only a fraction of its $20,000 goal to pay for Johnson’s homegoing.

Johnson was found dead in Los Angeles on Sept. 6. He was 55-years-old.
