Auburn University has always lived in the University of Alabama’s football shadow.
Over the years, Alabama’s Crimson Tide won multiple college football championships, while the Auburn Tigers had good seasons but no titles. But the odds on that potential title changed when quarterback Cam Newton, who’d played for the University of Florida and then Blinn College, decided to attend Auburn. The former University of Florida quarterback signed with the Tigers after leading Blinn to the National Junior College Athletic
Association National Championship. And when he got to Auburn, there was electricity in
the air.

The Tigers marched all the way to their annual rival game, the Iron Bowl, against Alabama, undefeated, on Nov. 26, 2010. Alabama came ready to play and led by as many as 24 points in the first half against Auburn. But behind Newton and his exceptional play, the Tigers came back and won the Iron Bowl 28-27.
The Tigers would go on to win the SEC Championship and then the National Title in what is the best year of college football in Auburn’s history.
