Kenyans marked their eighth sweep Monday of the oldest contested marathon in the world.

Diana Kipyogei, 27, won the women’s race at the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:24:45. It is only her third marathon and the second that she’s won. In 2020, she won the Istanbul Marathon.

Kipyogei beat rival Edna Kiplagat by 24 seconds. “I was looking over my shoulder,” Boston.com quoted her as saying.

Benson Kipruto, 30, won the men’s race in 2:09:51, and said he ran slower than he’d expected, the Washington Post reported.

The race that usually takes place in April was the first live Boston Marathon in 2.5 years because the pandemic turned the schedule upside-down.
