SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Kyrie Irving sets record with Brooklyn Nets debut

Point guard Kyrie Irving has always been a special basketball player in the NBA. He had
perfect timing with LeBron James as both helped bring a title to the Cleveland Cavaliers
organization in 2016. But Irving eventually decided it was time to move on and went to
Boston. Things did not work out for Irving with the Celtics, though, as he was eventually
traded to the Brooklyn Nets while they were trying to figure out a formula to make their
way back into contention.

Irving did not waste much time ingratiating himself to the Brooklyn fans. On Oct. 23,
2019, in his debut with the Nets, Irving scored 50 points on 17-33 shooting while
collecting eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Irving’s 50 points broke the NBA record for most points in a debut with a new team. Unfortunately, the Nets would lose the game 127-126 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
