SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Shaun Alexander leads a Crimson Tide win

University of Alabama versus Auburn University is one of the most heated rivalries in college football.

Each year, fans allow their emotions to boil over as these two teams trade barbs all season long. Both sides have had their bragging moments, from when Auburn’s Cam Newton led a comeback against Alabama in their 2010 championship run season to running back Derrick Henry running for 271 yards in a 2015 29-13 Alabama win over Auburn.

But another memorable win came on Nov. 21, 1998, in the Iron Bowl.

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide came into that game and used the talents of running back Shaun Alexander. Alabama was down as much as 17-0, but the Crimson Tide would fight back. And behind the three total touchdowns of Shaun Alexander, the Crimson Tide came back to win 31-17. This would be the last game Alabama and Auburn would play at the legendary Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
