A health sciences professor in the Chicago area is charged a felony hate crime after spitting on a Black woman, calling her a racial slur and purposely crashing into her car after aiming for her.

The incident involving Prof. Alberto Friedmann, 53, of the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, took place outside of a grocery store in Oak Park, Ill., earlier this month, according to the Chicago Sun-Times

The Black woman was parked in the driving lane of a grocery store parking lot waiting for her mother to finish shopping. The woman heard Friedman honking and yelling when he allegedly shouted a racial slur at her and ordered her to move her car. He then got out of his car and walked toward the woman, continuing to yell racial slurs.

The Black woman allegedly tried to open her car door but Friedman kicked it shut, spit in her face and told her he doesn’t like Black people.

Friedman then returned to his car and the woman exited hers to try to get his license plate number, according to court documents. That’s when Friedman drove toward the woman, missing her but crashing into her car twice, according to the documents.

Witnesses intervened and Friedman was arrested by police, the Sun-Times reports. He posted bond and was released from custody, court records show.
