More than 900 Haitian migrants have been apprehended in Bahamian waters in a Western Hemisphere crisis that has resulted in mass deportations.

More than 400 migrants were detained Wednesday after their vessel sank in the Ragged Island chain, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force told  The St. Kitts Nevis Observer. In addition, almost 200 migrants were detained in two incidents when a sloop was intercepted off of Inagua and when Marines intercepted a sloop in the Ragged Island chain. Marines also intercepted another sloop with more than 150 Haitians on board and apprehended an additional 70 migrants. And finally, on Wednesday, arthritis intercepted 86 migrants off of Inagua.

The Bahamas has welcomed the migrants, who have fled Haiti in droves following the assassination of President Jovel Moise in July and an earthquake in August.
