Three people died in Sudan Monday and several more were hurt after soldiers opened fire on protesters demonstrating against the military coup that overthrew Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other officials.

Protesters took to the streets after the military ended civilian rule and called for a state of emergency, the BBC is reporting.

Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, leader of the coup, blamed political infighting for the troubles.
