The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, with headquarters in Chicago, has more than doubled its $1 million fundraising goal for the special day it sets aside for HBCU fundraising.

“In the fourth and final year of our HBCU Impact Day Initiative, I am pleased, honored and excited to report that we have doubled our giving, exceeding the $2 million mark — an historic moment for Alpha Kappa Alpha, our members, other donors and the institutions that will benefit from these funds,” AKA international president and CEO Glenda Glover said in a statement. “This means even more support for them — our HBCUs,” Glover said.

The effort started in 2018 with the intention of raising $1 million in a day, said Glover, president of Tennessee State University.

AKA had a four-year goal of raising $10 million in the initiative.
