On this day in 1989, the Detroit Pistons won their first NBA title in the team’s franchise history.
Magic Johnson won his titles with the Lakers. Larry Bird won his titles with the Celtics. But in 1989, a talented point guard named Isaiah Thomas and a talented Detroit Pistons team put their mark on the NBA world. The Detroit Pistons completed a finals sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers to win the NBA title. The team, nicknamed the Bad Boys, would go on the repeat the next season.
