Today, Earvin “Magic” Johnson is better known for being a successful businessman than for being a great basketball player. The Los Angeles Lakers had to decide who they wanted to take in the 1979 NBA Draft by using their first overall pick.
When the Lakers saw one man from Michigan State, the “Magic Man”, they knew they had to take him. And with the first overall pick, the Lakers took Magic Johnson. On October 12, 1979, he began his legendary career with the Lakers as the team faced the San Diego Clippers. The Lakers won the game 103-102 and Johnson scored 26 points.
