SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: “Magic” Johnson reaches unwanted basketball milestone

Earvin “Magic” Johnson was an incredible basketball point guard. He was the maestro of
the sport’s fast-paced and flashy “Showtime” era in the 1980s. He did great things, leading the Los Angeles Lakers down the floor and punishing opposing defenses. He would guide the Lakers to multiple championships over his illustrious career.

But with great performaces also come moments when one stumbles.

One day that “Magic” wasn’t magical was May 14, 1980. That’s when he committed
10 turnovers — which takes place when a player loses the ball to the opposing team — an NBA Finals record he probably isn’t proud of. Fortunately for Johnson, the Lakers still beat the Philadelphia 76ers 108-103 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
