The Saint Louis Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith wasn’t nicknamed The Wizard of Oz for no reason. He could do things defensively that were magical. His type of ability gave the Cardinals the ability to get more outs by way of the double play.
On Sept. 15, 1995, Hall of Famer Smith’s dominance was defensively set for the record for the most double plays.
