SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Saints win the Super Bowl

The New Orleans Saints were not viewed favorably by NFL fans outside of New Orleans natives or residents. But once Shaun Peyton and quarterback Drew Brees arrived, that changed. Gone were the struggles of years past and in came a team that expected to win and get better.

Eventually, the Saints became one of a few teams considered in the running for a Super Bowl title. It took them a few years, but they finally would break through on Feb. 7, 2010, when they took on the Indianapolis Colts.

The Saints were needing a spark and executed a surprise onside kick to get the ball to start the second half. But there was one play that cemented the Saints’ victory and that was when cornerback Tracy Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and returned it for a touchdown. It was at that point that the game was over and the Saints would go
on to win the Super Bowl 31-17.
