SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Satchel Paige welcomed into Baseball Hall of Fame

When people think of great baseball pitchers, many mention Nolan Ryan among that pantheon. But one name that isn’t mentioned enough is Leroy “Satchel” Paige. The talented athlete totaled 125 wins and 82 losses during his professional career and that was only after he had pitched 20 years in the Negro Leagues.

If Paige had pitched in the Major Leagues the entire time, his numbers would more than likely have been higher, but he was so impressive that he was still considered
for the Baseball Hall of Fame. And on Aug. 9, 1971, Paige was inducted officially into the
institution in Cooperstown, New York.
