SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Shaq and Kobe share an award

Sometimes you cannot pick just one. That seems to happen sometimes
when it comes to awards and honors.

Who can forget when NBA players Jason Kidd and Grant Hill split the Rookie of the Year award?

But there were two NBA forces who shared honors who were different from one another.

Shaquille O’Neal was powerful and could bully anyone in the paint. Kobe Bryant, O’Neal’s teammate for some time in Los Angeles, had an insatiable hunger to grow and learn the be the best he could. And on Feb. 15, 2009, at the NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona, Kobe, of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Shaq, who was playing at the time for the Phoenix Suns, were so good that they split the NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award as the Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference 146-119.
