SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Three seven footers play in NBA All-Star Game

In this day and age, it isn’t abnormal in professional basketball to see someone seven-feet-tall play outside of the painted area and around the free-throw and three-point line. But back in the early 1990s and 2000s, that wasn’t the case. You didn’t see players on the court at heights seven feet or above. But in one place back on Feb. 13, 2000, you got one of the tallest frontlines in NBA history.

Kevin Garnett, Yao Ming, and Shaquille O’Neal were all selected for the NBA All-Star Game that year. All three big men were selected as starters for the game too. Garnett, Ming, and O’Neal combined for 70 points and 33 rebounds to lead the West All-Star
team to a 137-126 win over the East All-Stars before an energetic crowd at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California.
