SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Wizards’ Pierce makes winning shot at the buzzer

Paul Pierce was one of the best small forwards in the NBA for a time with the Boston Celtics. The team, however, eventually moved on, trading him along with Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets before the 2013-2014 season. After playing in Brooklyn for a season, Pierce landed with the Washington Wizards for the 2014-2015 season.

On May 9, 2015, during game three of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Pierce
hit a jump shot at the buzzer from the free throw line area with three defenders on him for a 103-101 win against the Atlanta Hawks, putting his team in the lead. When asked after the game about it, Pierce said, “I called game!”
