Former Seattle SuperSonics point guard and Hall of Famer Gary “The Glove” Payton is the new men’s basketball coach at Lincoln University in Oakland.

The development is part of a history-making year for the school, which is launching collegiate athletics for the first time in its 101-year history, the East Bay Times is reporting.

Payton, who retired from the NBA in 2007, said he took the job so that he can bring something back to his hometown.

“I can bring a lot of players from this Bay Area and let them see that we’ve still got a lot of basketball players that’s good around here,” he said. “These young kids, they don’t know how to play basketball right now but they will get it.”
