The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed two bills banning the teaching of critical race theory in schools and government training.

Both bills were introduced by Republicans and passed along party lines, according to The Cap Times. Both ban the teaching of topics such as systemic racism and gender inequality.

The bills still need passage by the state Senate before reaching the desk of Gov. Tony Evers, who is not likely to sign them into law, the Times reports.

The development makes Wisconsin the latest of a number of states across the country moving to ban critical race theory.

Wisconsin state Rep. LaKeshia Myers, a Milwaukee Democrat, issued a statement referring to the package of Assembly bills, “ … the ‘White Supremacy Preservation Act of 2021’ because that is what they represent.”
