Sports history in Black: Dan Bankhead

August 26th– On this day in 1947, the first Black pitcher in MLB history made his debut. Dan Bankhead took to the mound for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Before he made to the Dodgers, he played from 1940-1947 for the Birmingham Black Barons and the Memphis Red Sox. Ironically, in is first at-bat, he hit a homerun in that game versus Pittsburgh.
