Democrats nationwide are looking to the governor’s race in Virginia as an indicator of Black turnout for midterm elections next year.

The party is sending some of its brightest stars to the state where Democrat and former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is squaring off with Republican former businessman Glenn Youngkin for the governor’s seat, The Virginian-Pilot reports.

Vice President Kamala Harris has recorded a video to be played at more than 300 churches throughout the state and will campaign with McAuliffe next week. Former President Obama will be in Richmond this weekend. Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms campaigned for McAuliffe last week.
