Sports history in Black: Detroit Pistons’ Joe Dumars sets an NBA record

The NBA player many associate with the Detroit Pistons is Isiah Thomas. The Chicago native was the engine that led the Pistons team to back-to-back titles right before Michael Jordan strung together six titles in eight years.

But Thomas wasn’t the only notable player with the Pistons. The other player who was quiet but deadly was Joe Dumars, Thomas’ running mate in the backcourt.

Dumars was always known as a shooter during his time in the NBA and on November 8, 1994, he would ignite, drilling an NBA record 10 three-pointers on his way to 40 points and a 126-112 win over the Minneapolis Timberwolves. The record would be short-lived though, as Orlando Magic guard Dennis Scott would break it on April 18, 1996, hitting 11 three-pointers against the Atlanta Hawks.
