SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Dual NBA records for Jordan and Barkley

Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan always did whatever it took to win at basketball. Whether he needed to defend the other team’s best player or finish a game with a game-winning shot, he was always up to the task. But in the 1993 NBA Finals, he met a player who was up to the task of trying to match him: Phoenix Suns forward Charles Barkley.

Barkley and Jordan both tried to push their teams to a win on June 11, 1993, with
Barkley and Jordan scoring 42 points each. Unfortunately for Barkley, Jordan and the
Bulls just had a little bit more to get across the finish line, winning the game 111-108.
Both Barkley and Jordan scoring over 40 points was the first time opposing teams had
players score over 40 points in an NBA Finals game in NBA history.
