SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Ken Griffey Jr. reaches a home run milestone

Baseball outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. was known as the talented kid who played with his dad, Ken Griffey Sr., with the Seattle Mariners when the younger Griffey first got to the Major Leagues. Fans said it was great seeing these two play together, but eventually, Griffey Jr. took center stage.

His talent quickly made people forget the heartwarming vision of him playing with his dad. He would crush home runs, steal bases and make incredible catches all on his way to bringing more eyeballs to watch Seattle play.

Griffey’s star would continue to rise and so would his numbers. And on that way to
stardom, Ken Griffey Jr. reached a milestone. On May 21, 1996, Griffey Jr. became the
eighth youngest player to reach 200 home runs in Major League Baseball history.
