SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: Rockets, Pacers shed underdog label

In the 1995 NBA playoffs, all hope seemed lost for the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals. It seemed as if their basketball season would end soon. The Rockets trailed the Phoenix Suns 3-1 in the series.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Indiana Pacers trailed the New York Knicks three to one in their best-of-seven series.

When the outlook was poor for the Rockets and the Pacers, they fought back.

The Rockets tied the series, and on May 20, 1995, a three-pointer by guard Mario Elie gave
them a 115-114 win over the Suns. The win made the Rockets the first team in 13 years
to win after being down 3-1 in the series. A day later, the Pacers, led by guard Reggie Miller, came back from being down 3-1 against the Knicks.
