SPORTS HISTORY IN BLACK: The NFL Draft and quarterback dreams

The quarterback position has been drafted the most times at number one overall in the NFL
Draft. Each time, each team was hoping the quarterback they drafted would change their
fortune. Sometimes, it works out, as it did for the Indianapolis Colts when they selected Peyton Manning out of the University of Tennessee in the 1998 NFL Draft. Manning would lead the Colts to a Super Bowl and kept them in contention for a title for much of his time there.

And then there were times it didn’t work out, as is the case when the Colts drafted Jeff George out of the University of Illinois.

The Arizona Cardinals battled whether or not to draft a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft, but eventually, they decided to do so. And on April 25, 2019, the Cardinals selected Kyler Murray from the University of Oklahoma. The jury is still out as to if he can be their long-term guy, but they have had some success with him.
