Lakers general manager/executive Jerry West made one of the most famous trades in NBA history when he traded center Vlade Divac to the Charlotte Hornets to acquire the rights to Kobe Bryant with the 13th pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. Kobe would go on to pair up with Shaquille O’Neal to win two titles as the so-called “second option” and two more as the unquestioned leader of the Lakers later in his career.
